Petrunija gyvena mažame Štipo mieste Makedonijoje. Kartą, eidama namo po nepasisekusio darbo pokalbio, ji spontaniškai nusprendžia sudalyvauti varžybose, kurių metu reikia kuo greičiau pasiekti į vandenį mestą kryžių. Varžybos skirtos tik vyrams, bet Petrunijos niekas nespėja sustabdyti, ir ji laimi. Tačiau jos varžovams tokia įvykių seka pasirodo esanti ne prie širdies.

In Shtip, a small town in Macedonia, every January the local priest throws a wooden cross into the river and hundreds of men dive after it. Good fortune and prosperity are guaranteed to the man who retrieves it. This time, Petrunya dives into the water and manages to grab the cross before the others. Her competitors are furious, but Petrunya holds her ground. She won her cross and will not give it up.
